Writing

"goofy and rigorous but never self-serious"

The Brooklyn Rail on my work

Read the full Brooklyn Rail article here.

I write ensemble comedies that paint a portrait of a specific community; use inventive language with heightened, poetic, or surrealist embellishments; and lean into the inherent performativity of theater. Alternating between rapid-fire battles of wits, goofy slapstick comedy, and show-stopping spectacle, my plays feature ordinary people who have jobs that most of us don’t think of as gainful employment and who make friends by sharing regionally-specific foods or niche hobbies that seem more like nightmares. In my writing, I strive to capture the weird and whimsical, the humor and pathos in ordinary people’s lives.

I love making shows about individuals from all corners of society…

  • Three Zillennials navigating tricky relationships with their elders while trying not to fantasize about Santa (Slick)
  • A lesbian couple and their aspiring-rabbi son defending their Cape Code chocolate shop from a takeover attempt by their former protégée (Chococphiles)
  • A female Major League Baseball mascot attending her first Characters Convention, which turns out to be a wacky and ultra-caffeinated fusion of an ESPN blooper reel and a queer(er) Wizard of Oz (Boys’ Club - 2025 Finalist for the O’Neill National Playwrights Conference)
  • And more…

My plays experiment with language, space, and time and activate performers’ physicality in unexpected ways. I want actors to have fun performing my work, to feel they each have a chance to shine, and to infect the audience with their joy. Everyone should have a good time at my shows.
