I tried my hand at a TV pilot because I love the half-hour comedy format and it seemed fun—it was!
Combining a nerd’s love of word play and seventeenth century Dutch art with a Hulu comedy enthusiast’s penchant for snappy dialogue, edgy jokes, and well-placed cutaways, Temperamental brings a raucous contemporary energy to Amsterdam in 1661: As Andreas begins his studies under self-proclaimed “national treasure” Rembrandt van Rijn, his new friends Hendrick and Bernhard get drunk and avoid painting “the hands”; young, Adonis-like Johannes Vermeer schools them at painting and at looking hot while saying mean things; Rembrandt’s niece Maria toys with Andreas’ affections; Andreas’ sister Margaretha plots a literary revolution; and her friend Isabella intends to kill them all with her reckless temper and terrible puns. There is also a ghost or two and a foul-mouthed baker’s wife. Welkom to the show!
